Mystery Shopper: Martyn Channon Country Store

Although agriculture and animal health remain the cornerstone of the business, pet food, gardening products and clothing are also well-stocked in store. The family run business has been established for 30 years but was struck with disaster in 2006 when an arsonist set fire to a rubbish bin which destroyed the store.
Over the last year, their hard work and dedication ensured that they continued trading from temporary premises, closing only for one day. In June, they returned to Rye market and continue to demonstrate the same enthusiasm and desire to serve their community and customers.
The Mystery Shopper was extremely impressed with the strong focus by all staff on customer service and satisfaction. Martyn Channon, owner, says “the old motto ‘treat as you would like to be treated’ has always been our way of life and the kettle is always on the boil!”
The country store is run by Martyn’s son Patrick on a day-to-day basis and daughter Nicola who oversees the clothing department. The three SQPs are all in the process of upgrading their AMTRA qualification.
